Addis Orphan Home

Ethiopia has preserved its freedom throughout most of the centuries, undefiled by colonization. However, this nation is one of the poorest in Africa, maimed by past economic and political instability. Despite efforts towards stability in the 90s and new millennium, Ethiopia continues to engage in civil conflict particularly over the shifting Eritrea border. In addition to war, there are often droughts and famines, straining their agriculturally based economy. Moreover, nearly two-thirds of the nation are illiterate.

The Addis home is located in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa. This city is the largest in Ethiopia with a population of over two million people and is the political, cultural, and geographical center of the nation.

The city name literally means "new flower." Warm Blankets and its local partners hope to help this "new flower" to blossom, giving the most helpless of children the opportunity to strengthen and change their beloved country from the inside out.

At present, a permanent building for the orphans' living quarters is not yet complete. Unaccompanied minors will be placed with relatives as they are located. Some of the children pictured on this website may not end up living under our care. If you are interested in supporting this work please contact us.
