Each Mercy Home has a family atmosphere based on love and compassion. Every home shares a building with the local Christian church. The pastor is like the father, and the care givers are like moms, aunts and grandmas.
This picturesque setting belies the fact that violence and religious persecution surround this home. Rural India is oppressed by a rigid caste system of social divisions into which Hindu society is traditionally segregated. Each caste has its own privileges and limitations, transferred by inheritance from one generation to the next.
Christians have been severely persecuted in this area. Many of the children living in this home are survivors, whose parents have
been victims of violence.
The Gudayagiri Mercy Home provides a family to each of the children affected by such violence and discrimination. Here, they find love and acceptance. They are cared for by home parents and have siblings who have been through the same hardships. Here, they will thrive and grow in the knowledge of God, and will be protected from the persecution that has so far marked their whole life.
