Waikabubak

Mercy Home

This home is located in the province of East Nusa Teggara in Indonesia. Waikabubak is the second largest city on Sumba island.

The dominant religion in the area is Animism. They worship Merapu (their false god) by offering blood sacrifices of animals. They celebrate Merapu Holy Day, Harvest, new home, wedding, and funeral cermonies. The people living here have their own local language and cannot speak Baha'i, the official language of Indonesia.

Sumba Island is poor economically and many people cannot earn enough to survive. This has left a large number of orphans, who without outside help will perish as well.

For this reason, a Mercy Home was planted in Waikabubak. The orphans live in a Christian Community Center that has a radio station. The older orphans help to run the station; many local

residents have received Christ because of their ministry.
