Mercy Home

The Medan Mercy Home is a home for the tsunami victims of 26 December '04 and earthquake victims of 28 March '05. The home was formed after the rescue of the children from Nias Island. The evacuation of the children from Nias was done right away directly to our homes in Medan after the 28 March '05 earthquake disaster.

Pastor Ir. Boimim Sirait, MM, graduated from the University of the North Sumatra majoring in Engineering.

Each morning starts at 5 am. All the children gather and pray together for one hour and they do the housework by schedule. Some of the children go to school in the morning and some in the afternoon. In the evenings the children study their lessons after having dinner. At 7 pm they have worship and close the day by praying together. All kids must be in bed by 10 pm. Most of the people in Medan are Christian, but in the villages there are many people who still believed in animisms.

In Nias, where the children comes from, there are also many people who believe in

animisms.

We found that there are still children which were given a "magic" cloth or object with the idea that it would protect them.
