Santhanuthalapadu

Mercy Home

This home is located in the small village of Santhanuthalapadu in the State of Andhra Pradesh, India.

India has been said to lead the world in natural disasters. Reports of a new earthquake, flood or drought seem to hit the news weekly and the people of India are feeling the impact. When you introduce all of this to domestic conflict, intense poverty, international tensions, and accelerating disease rates, you can see how turbulence in India is expected to skyrocket the number of orphaned children.

So, where does a child fit into this? What about a child who’s lost everything in their life that represented stability?

It’s a funny name to pronounce, but Santhanuthalapadu Mercy Home is home to a makeshift family of orphaned children and their caregivers. The kids have lost their parents and the caregivers, local widows, understand this loss in a deeper way than others can imagine.

They’ve lost their families, but the kids aren’t far removed from everything they knew before joining the Mercy Home. They still live in same village and attend the local public schools. Remaining in the Santhanuthalapadu community, these children are being raised as local leaders in an area that they understand. They are trained as disciples of Christ and leaders in their generation. Life in India is tumultuous right now, but these kids are being raised as agents of change.

You’re likely an ocean away from these kids, but you can still provide them with the love, support, and stability they so crave. You can prepare a generation of committed leaders in the face of turbulence. Will you join us in caring for the children of Santhanuthalapadu?
